SIS First Look: Your Feedback, Video Recordings, and What’s Next

Thanks again for joining us recently at the SIS Enhancement First Look event to preview the future of our Student Information System (SIS). If you missed a session or want to revisit the presentations, recordings are now available! We appreciated your time, thoughtful questions, and feedback as we introduced Ask Banner replacements Ellucian Experience, Ellucian Insights, and Cognomos Course Match (pre-registration system). We learned a lot from the feedback we received and are planning to adjust our future demos and events accordingly.

What we heard and how we plan to adjust

What we heard and how we plan to adjust

  • Clarity on urgency: While the community understands the need for changes, there’s some uncertainty about the risks of not undertaking this critical initiative. We’ll be updating our website soon with more context on why this work is essential now.
  • Impact on day-to-day work/studies: At this phase of the initiative where a lot of the specific details are still unknown, it’s hard to visualize in detail how this change will affect individuals' work/studies. We’ll be continuously updating the website with more detailed information as it becomes available, but for now, you can anticipate some changes around where you access student information. For example, Ask Banner will be replaced with Ellucian Experience and will have different features and reports to access the same information that you have historically accessed through Ask Banner. We have been undergoing a series of capability review deep-dive workshops with heavy SIS users to begin developing the new system in a way that works most efficiently for the most users. If you were unable to attend these capability review workshops, but would like to be more deeply involved in the process, please consider getting involved!
  • Event format feedback: Some found the event too long or hard to attend. In response, we're exploring shorter, spread-out sessions, tabling events, department visits, and “freeplay” demo stations. We’re planning our next round of demos for the fall semester, so keep a lookout for more information! Have a format that works best for you, or any other ideas on how we could improve future demos and events? Let us know!

We’re excited to move into the system design phase this summer and are grateful for everyone who’s helped us get this far. We’ll continue working with campus partners to build out key features and plan to share updates and schedule new demo events in the fall.

Want to get more involved?

As we design the new SIS, we’re partnering with subject matter experts across campus. If you’d like to be more involved, now’s a great time to join our working group. Your input is essential to shaping a system that works for Vassar. Thanks again for being part of this important journey!
